I’m Angela Jeff Anthony, an architecture and design student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), pursuing a BFA with a focus on Architecture and Set Design. My work sits at the intersection of architecture, interiors, spatial storytelling, material exploration, and visual design.
I’m interested in understanding how the spaces we inhabit can influence our emotions, behaviors, and experiences. My approach to design is rooted in experimentation. I enjoy exploring unconventional forms, materials, and ways of constructing environments rather than limiting myself to traditional architectural solutions.
A growing area of my practice is sustainable and material-driven design. I’m particularly interested in emerging materials such as bioplastics, mycelium, recycled plastics, agricultural waste, and other bio-based or reclaimed materials. Rather than approaching sustainability only as a technical problem, I’m interested in how these materials can become part of the aesthetic, spatial, and experiential language of architecture. I want to explore how architects and designers can collaborate with material scientists, fabricators, and researchers to bring experimental materials into real spaces.
Alongside architecture, I have a strong interest in set and production design. I’m drawn to the way sets create entire worlds through architecture, interiors, lighting, materials, scale, and atmosphere. This has influenced the way I think about architecture not simply as the design of buildings, but as a way of creating narratives and experiences.
At SAIC, I’ve explored architecture through studio work, design research, and interdisciplinary courses while developing skills in Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital visualization. I’m continuing to expand my technical knowledge while developing a practice that combines conceptual thinking with practical design.
Professionally, I’m interested in corporate and workplace architecture, interior and experiential design, sustainable material applications, and set/production design. I’m especially interested in projects where architecture crosses into other creative disciplines and where designers are given the opportunity to experiment.
Ultimately, I want my practice to exist between architecture, art, material research, and storytelling creating spaces that are thoughtful, sustainable, visually engaging, and meaningful to the people experiencing them.
